Harrods Cafe by DRS

The 160 m2 sandwich cafe takes inspiration from classical London club interiors using hues such as deep green, dark blue and rich burgundy. The brand new sandwich bar has been refashioned as an unusually chic and comfortable bolthole to complement the acres of retail within the world renowned department store. Tom Dixon Sandwich is furnished with the latest innovations in brass lighting and deeply upholstered club chairs, marble clad tables and pierced metal screens, all from the Tom Dixon collection and some previously unseen. The result is a gastronomic oasis literally sandwiched between the two Tom Dixon furniture concessions on the third floor.

Tom Dixon at Milan Design Week

Tom Dixon debuts at the Milan Design Week, showcasing new furniture, lighting and accessories under the theme of the CLUB. The conventional Gentleman’s club is reworked into a contemporary version of the historic British members club – a modern day home-away-from-home, a plush and cultured haven where pleasure and work collide. Some overdue additions to the popular BEAT family, inspired by the sculptural simplicity of traditional water vessels used in India. Both table and floor lights incorporate the familiar hand-beaten shade. GREY BEAT is an exercise in expressive minimalism, the instantly recognizable pendants are now recolored in grey with a precious internal silver plate, creating a warm, shimmering glow. A tactile table top made from durable polyurethane, the Y TABLE comes in two sizes and two different finishes – a plain black top and with an enamel insert. The enamel adds a vibrant pop of colour. Solid brass table-top utensils with expressive forms, Arc by Tom Dixon is a celebration of no-fuss materiality. Made through a sand-casting process, each piece is unique. Science fiction inspired futuristic simplicity combined with practical shapes that are easy to use. Table top architecture for the new age. A stalwart component of the international modern kitchen. Arc comprises a trivet, a bottle opener and a cork screw. The trivet comes in two pieces. It can be combined to form a simple centre piece trivet to protect a table top from heat or water damage, or can be used in multiple configurations.

Maison and Objet: Etched tea light holder

Metal precision manufacturing techniques combined with a wood-grain pattern inspired by nature. Finely etched holes in the metallic sheet give the illusion of a textured wood surface by Tom Dixon. When lit, the organic pattern etched onto the pentagon structure casts a web of complex shadows to the nearest surface. Available in brass, copper and stainless steel.

Super-functional metal accessories, Cog by Tom Dixson brings precision manufacturing to the home. As we scour factories worldwide, we find ourselves constantly referring to great British engineering. Creating a sense of the tool Knurling on each piece allows a firm grip. Cog comprises candle holders (medium and large), tea light holders (cone and cylinder), containers (small and large), a candelabrum and a desk tidy.

Maison and Objet Preview: Plum by Tom Dixon

Plum is a series of barware by Tom Dixon that brings cocktail culture and drinks traditions into a contemporary universe. Formed from glass and copper, each piece offers an attractive functionality to the restaurant, bar and home. Each glass item is mouth-blown and hand-cut. The futuristic copper-plated cocktail shaker with large belly and tapered ends allows a firmer grip and more balanced shaking. The slim end cap also functions as a spirit measure. The essential accessory set and a very sophisticated way to serve memorable drinks. Plum comprises tongs, vases (small and large), swizzle sticks, a cocktail shaker, a serving platter, an ice bucket, a champagne bucket and a lemon squeezer.

Flask by Tom Dixon

British design and manufacturing company Tom Dixon has design GEM. Part of the Rough and Smooth collection, presented at this year’s 2013 Salone del Mobile in Milan, Italy, like a mysterious chemistry experiment FLASK is a spherical object made up of two, hand-blown, glass components, with a ridged and rounded base and a smoked-glass hood.

British design and manufacturing company Tom Dixon has design GEM. Part of the Rough and Smooth collection, presented at this year’s 2013 Salone del Mobile in Milan, Italy, the series comprises angular lights, tables and mirrors, sand cast from nickel-plated aluminum, taking inspiration from the faces of cut gemstones.

Cell Lighting by Tom Dixon

British design and manufacturing company Tom Dixon has design CELL, a lighting collection part of the Rough and Smooth series, presented at this year’s 2013 Salone del Mobile in Milan, Italy. Each Cell is made from layers of minutely etched, polished brass filtering light rays to throw a satisfyingly dappled glow casting intricate shadows on walls, floors and ceilings. The light mimics cellular growth which can be used in multiple, geometric configurations. The short pendant and wall light use a Crown Brass LED lamp developed exclusively by Tom Dixon with Megaman.
