1. Dress appropriately
This week Toronto is going into a deep freeze. As the majority of the events are outside or require you to move around the city, I would highly recommend dressing for the weather.
2. Snow is still everywhere
As the great snow clear out slowly continues throughout the city, it means the roads, walkways and entrances are not that easily accessible. I drove into the city and finding parking was difficult. Sidewalks are covered in snow or ice. The terrain is not ideal so make sure you reference tip #1.
3. Pick a district
DesignTO is across the city, your best bet is to pick a district and conquer it. If you feel overwhelmed by all the options, find in-person exhibitions so you can see and experience the events inside. Make sure you follow COVID protocols and the hours are available when you are going.
4. Don’t do too much
If this is your first or fifteenth DesignTO festival, don’t do too much. Festival fatigue is a thing and after seeing dozens of designers, objects, art, etc…it will all become a blur. So pick things you like seeing and go see them. Quality vs. quantity.
5. Digital is still an option
And if you are not comfortable with venturing out, digital is still an option. There will be many online events, talks and exhibitions to experience from the comfort of your home. Just check out DesignTO’s Instagram for daily updates and highlights.
Let me know your tips and districts that you’ll be seeing this year.
