As a Bonvoy member, I like to stick with Hotels within the portfolio. So when I was traveling to Helsinki, this one caught my eye. Originally opened as the Helsinki County Prison and investigative penitentiary, it was recently transformed into a modern and boutique hotel. I couldn’t resist help but stay here.
Depending on your suite preference you can stay in the old jail cells or the old offices, which are now very comfortable suites. Protected by the Finnish National Board of Antiquities, the main hallway, exterior shell, and surrounding red brick walls remain to remind today’s’ visitors of numerous colourful and often tragic stories of a bygone era. In the basement, you can take a trip down memory lane where there is a mini gallery featuring the photography of the prisoners and staff as well as an original jail cell which bears the right amount of creepy.
