As much as I love movies, I also enjoy musicals. American Idiot came to Hamilton Place this past weekend and me and the girls got dolled up for a night out. I wasn’t really into alternative music as a teenager but I do know the group Green Day and periodically listen to their songs and sing along if I know lyrics.
This is a coming of age story, that mirrors the lives of the band. It follows their paths through fatherhood, war and addiction. The music really pours the emotion on the stage. And the performers really connected with the audience in all their group and individual scenes. I will admit that I didn’t know how they were going to end the musical because the acting, the music and the plot could go on forever. I don’t want to spoil the ending but everyone goes home after their adventures in life. I loved the encore ending where the entire cast came out and played the guitar signing ‘Time of Your Life’.
