At September’s Junction Flea, TAS and DUKE Condos hosted a day of family-friendly activities designed to create awareness about the importance of understanding the source of our food. The event was led by Fresh City Farms (who recently partnered with TAS to implement the Farm Lot on King St West), and provided the opportunity for children to learn how to plant seeds, using recycled egg cartons as miniature pots. All children who participated were able to bring home their own lil’ garden, with instructions on how to take of the seedling as it emerged from the soil.
Our friends from Cultivate Toronto were also on site to talk about our shared rooftop garden in Regent park and their organization’s efforts to transform neglected residential backyards into productive vegetable gardens.
Through TAS’s commitment to nurturing neighbourhoods and fostering partnerships we look forward to many more educational opportunities that engage with the community and create awareness about important urban issues.
