Richelle’s Real Estate Adventure – Episode 3 – How I bought a house for 50K

If you’ve been following me, this is how I bought a house for less than $50K during Covid. When I got home from my 14 hour drive, the realtor called me and asked if there were any home I liked. I said, I liked the old lady house. She told me it was on the market for a while and that I should go in with an aggressive offer. It was on the market for $58K. We went in with an offer of $35K!!! The property was actually a power of sale and I was dealing with the bank. It was “as is – where is”. I sent the offer to my lawyer to review, in the meantime my realtor was organizing a home inspection while I was wire transferring my deposit. When I got my papers back from the lawyer, my realtor told me that someone else who wanted to buy the house, go figure and now I was in a bidding war. I had to go in with my final and best offer. I did review the home inspection and there wasn’t anything I didn’t already know I needed to do like replacing the roof, replacing the windows and replacing the furnace. So I went in with my final and best offer of $42K cash and closing within a month. On December 6, 2020 I was a new homeowner of a 3 bedroom bungalow that backed onto a golf course in Manitouwadge.
